One wonders how quickly a year passes. Sometimes I wished for more time to write and comment on more topics, but I still hope that I was able to inform you about some interesting topics related to MS in 2017.
There are now many internet forums that provide information on the subject of MS. A common characteristic of these sites, however, is that while they do provide good information, they often do not contain a clear evaluation of the information – and are therefore not necessarily helpful. Value-free information may be advantageous, but on the other hand, a clear statement and attitude is important, especially in the case of chronic diseases. Therefore, when dealing with topics related to MS, I try to make clear statements and convey a clear stance.
I know that this approach occasionally brings me criticism from my readers – but I am firmly convinced that information with a clear evaluation and statement is more helpful for people affected by MS. Of course, it is still a pity – and this has always been a point of criticism over the years – that I cannot respond appropriately to the many comments and contrary opinions. But for time reasons, it is simply not possible to offer further interaction. Therefore, I once again ask for understanding that while I do read the comments and try to cover them through text contributions, I am not able to respond directly to the inquiries. Nevertheless, I would be happy if you continue to accompany my contributions with numerous and critical comments.
What will 2018 bring? For one thing, the McDonald’s diagnostic criteria will be revised – I expect this to result in a more pragmatic application. Therapeutically, the approval of Ocrevus will expand the therapeutic spectrum. We will have to have a discussion about which therapeutic strategy we prefer – are induction concepts or escalating therapy concepts the right way? It is hoped that biomarkers for prognostic estimation of disease progression will help us find the right path for the individual patient. The measurement of neurofilament light chains in the serum could become an interesting diagnostic tool for this. Therefore, I am sure that 2018 will not be boring and that there will be many topics worth commenting on in this blog.
All that remains for me to do is to wish you a happy, successful and above all stable new year 2018. All the best.
Yours
